The Kindergarten year marks the end of Preschool and the first stage of Primary School. It’s a pivotal time for your child’s learning, development and readiness for further education.
What's different about Kindergarten at FMS?
Kindergarten at FMS is a carefully curated program that bridges the gap between preschool and ‘Big School.’
It allows your child to commence the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Kindergarten curriculum alongside Montessori learning within their 3-6 classroom, under the guidance of their familiar class teacher.
While curriculum learning takes place in the classroom, specialist subjects and co-curricular activities foster friendships and offer further learning experiences that prepare your child for Primary School education.
What are the specialist and co-curricular activities for Kindergarten students?
Kindergarten comes together as a group to for specialist subjects, working with other educators at FMS and often alongside primary students. This gives our Kindergarten students a gentle taste of primary learning, strengthening friendships within the kindergarten group and building the bridge between preschool and primary. Currently, students at FMS come together for the following specialist sunjects:
Drama
Music
Gardening
Library time
Sport *
Cooking
*Sport changes each term. In the past, students have enjoyed Tennis, Gymnastics, Swimming and Surf lessons.
What co-curricular activities are available for Kindergarten Students?
At FMS, we have an extensive range of co-curricular activities available to Primary School students before and after school. These activities are all optional and are a great way for children to learn new skills and explore interests with their school friends. All activities are offered on site at FMS - a bonus for busy families. It's another way kindergarten students can begin to engage with primary school students at FMS. Currently, the co-curricular program at FMS includes:
Mandarin lessons
STEAM Program
Chess Club*
Dance
Spanish (language & culture)
Soccer
Before School Sport (changes each term)*
Instrumental music (piano or violin)
FMS School Choir*
