Little did we know when we celebrated the countdown to 2020 that we would find ourselves navigating a global pandemic.  It feels like we are living in our own movie.  If only is was The Truman show, we could step off set and get back to life as normal.  Yet we all know we cannot.

Across the world, many schools have already closed.  Here in Australia our schools are not officially closed but many parents are choosing to keep their children at home.  We respect whatever decision families make for their children.  It is highly likely that Australian schools will close at some point so here at FMS, we are preparing for that time when we transition into our ‘Learning from Home’ phase.

Here’s some of our students talking about their daily routine.   (video)

COVID-19 sure has us all pivoting and flipping our thinking.  When it comes to learning, we are focused on providing you with assistance that is practical, not overwhelming and as aligned as possible with our Montessori Philosophy.

As we’ve been creating ideas for you, we’ve been commenting on how this disruption is accelerating the parent education program we’ve always wanted to design.  Little did we know we’d be turning it around in under one week!

We hope that these packs along with the Learning from Home – Handbook for Parents, which you can download from our website, are helpful.

Want to create a Montessori learning vibe at home?  Here’s a gift pack for you.

We’ve been given an opportunity. Here we all are.  How do we want to be?  We want to a void any pressure being placed on parents to ‘keep the children learning’.  They are learning and right now, they’re learning mostly from watching how adults around them respond to these extraordinary times we find ourselves living in.

I think these times call on us to focus on being more human.  Learning won’t be lost and if you’re worried about your child falling behind, relax, every child is in the same position.  When they are back in the classroom, our wonderful Montessori educators will meet them where they are.  Our educators are experts at this!

When and if we do have to close our doors, our community will remain open in new and exciting ways!  After all Montessori education is all about assisting the development of the human spirit.  Staff continue to design learning activities for the next phase of the FMS Learning From Home series. So watch this space.
